Our Vision
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) envisions a society where people from all walks of life work co-operatively to build a green and prosperous economy, where all Saskatchewan families share in the benefits of that economy, and where young people can realize their full potential and build their future.
Our Mission
The mission of the New Democratic Party (NDP) is to elect progressive governments who will work in partnerships with Saskatchewan families and communities to build that society.
Our Legacy
New Democrats are guided by an unwavering belief in economic and social equality, fiscal and environmental sustainability, and the power of people working co-operatively through democratic institutions, including government, to achieve the common good.
New Democrats, and our predecessors in the CCF, have a proud legacy of leading change in Saskatchewan and in Canada including:
- We pioneered publicly-funded and universally-accessible health care in Canada. We continue that proud tradition today with the new Seniors' Drug Plan, the first major expansion of Medicare since its creation.
- We used our publicly-owned Crown utilities to provide rural Saskatchewan with electricity. We continue that proud tradition today with Canadian leadership in wind power, working on the world’s first near-zero emissions clean coal power plant, promoting energy conservation, mandating ethanol use in gasoline, and launching an ambitious Green Strategy and a comprehensive Energy and Climate Change Plan which includes bold targets.
- We ensured that Saskatchewan people realize the benefits of their natural resources. Now we continue that work as we pursue the fair and equitable equalization deal that the federal government promised to the people of Saskatchewan.
- We invested substantial new resources in our health care system to reduce wait times and increase training spaces for health care providers.
- Public ownership of SaskTel has provided rural Saskatchewan with greater access to high-speed Internet services than any other jurisdiction in the country.
- We continue to fight for a fair share of the revenue from Saskatchewan’s non-renewable resources, despite Stephen Harper’s broken promise and Brad Wall's capitulation.
