Biography

John Nilson was born in Saskatoon and has lived in a number of Saskatchewan communities including Medstead, Prince Albert and now Regina.

John obtained his education at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington, University of Oslo, Norway, St. Olaf College in Minnesota and the University of British Columbia.

He practised law and mediation with MacPherson, Leslie & Tyerman from 1978 until he was elected as the MLA for Regina Lakeview.

John was also Consul of Norway for Saskatchewan from 1991 to 1995 and Acting Consul of Denmark for Saskatchewan from July 1994 to 1995.

He was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1995 and then re-elected in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011.

John is an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Scandinavian Club of Regina and many community organizations.

In the previous NDP government, he served as Minister of Justice, Crown Investments Corporation, Health and Environment.

He and his wife, Linda, have two daughters, Ingrid and Solveig. They live in Regina Lakeview, near the Legislature, and farm north of Parkbeg.

 

Constituency Description

This constituency is located in south central Regina and extends to the city's western edge. It contains the Airport, Craig Golf Course, the Lakeview Par 3 Golf Course, the Golden Mile Shopping Centre and the mainly residential portion of the Cathedral Village, located south of 13th Avenue.
