Bright Futures Fund

To make sure Saskatchewan families benefit from resource wealth over the long term, an NDP government will develop the ‘Bright Futures Fund.’

Like similar funds in Alaska and Norway, we will invest a portion of our non-renewable resource royalties for the future.

The Problem

The Sask Party has seen over $10 billion dollars in non-renewable resource revenues flow through their hands in the last four years. And what has been done with the money?

It’s been spent.

The Sask Party is spending these one-time dollars without any plan for the future.

The Solution

To make sure Saskatchewan families benefit from resource wealth over the long term, an NDP government is committed to developing the ‘Bright Futures Fund.’

Like similar funds in Alaska and Norway, the ‘Bright Futures Fund’ will see the government dedicate a portion of Saskatchewan’s non-renewable resource royalties to invest for the future.

The fund would be ‘hands-off’: independently managed, with the government not allowed to withdraw money to cover short-term deficits and day-to-day spending.

The Facts

In just over 20 years, the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth fund has grown to be the largest in the world.

The Norwegian fund is valued at more than $500 billion, and it presently holds approximately 1% of all globally traded stocks.
